Overview

The Full Stack Mobile App Lead role will lead the DevOps team responsible for creating and operating an Android/IOS mobile app with a cloud-based backend that puts supply chain in the hands of our restaurants and distribution delivery drivers.  The agile, highly productive team delivers releases in an agile fashion about every two weeks to continuously improve existing functionality and delivery new functionality.  This team develops in an agile fashion and also supports the app after its operating in the cloud.  The goal is to design for failure and automate responses in the cloud to possible issues so they can be worked during normal hours. 

 

A primary responsibility of this role is to provide technology leadership and drive engineering and operational excellence on a team of 5 to 7 engineers and designers.  The technology stack includes React Native and Google Firebase on the front end and python based microservices running on Kubernetes in AWS on the backend.  Continuously driving for ways to improve and simplify our technology stack will require a passion for technology and reducing complexity.

Partnering with senior business stakeholders in Restaurant Services and Transportation to understand the business and estimate, plan, and prioritize features is also an essential part of this role.

As wholly owned subsidiaries of Chick-fil-A, Inc., Chick-fil-A Supply and Bay Center Foods are food production and distribution services networks focused entirely on serving the unique needs and growing volume of Chick-fil-A restaurants.

 

The Chick-fil-A Supply and Bay Center Foods service networks are comprised of three components:

  • Distribution Center – State-of-the-art warehouses that house supply for Chick-fil-A restaurants
  • Production Distribution Center – Offsite facilities that prepare select ingredients and menu items for Chick-fil-A restaurants
  • Transportation – Growing fleet of delivery vehicles that supply Chick-fil-A restaurants

Responsibilities

  • Lead a 5 to 7 person team of front end and backend engineers in an agile DevOps Environment.
  • Release new versions of our mobile app on Android and IOS using a single code base written in React Native.
  • Drive engineering excellence and operational excellence for the front and backend components, leading to high quality releases.
  • Act as the solution architect for the front and backend of the mobile app team.
  • Lead, assess, and mentor a team of software engineers.
  • Delegate engineering assignments and assess engineering performance in an agile environment.
  • Leverage agile project management tools and methods to lead your team through system enhancements with a focus on small, frequent releases and continuous improvement
  • Develop relationships with IT and Business leaders to communicate on operations KPI’s and any unplanned outages or planned upgrades

  • Identify & propose emerging software engineering technologies, methodologies and/or approaches

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of related professional experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Technical lead, and/or Architect
  • Expert-level knowledge in design and programming using Java, Python, Go, and/or similar languages
  • Experience writing React Native applications for Android and IOS.
  • Experience with Kubernetes in an AWS environment.
  • Experience implementing cloud operations specifically related to automating deployments, monitoring, alerting, and logging
  • Experience mentoring and leading software engineers.
  • A deep understanding of security best practices in the cloud and experience implementing them

Note - This opportunity includes both building, deploying, and running solutions that could require off hours support. This support is shared amongst the team members to cover weekends and weeknights.  The goal is to design for failure and automate responses in the cloud to possible issues so they can be worked during normal hours. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Google Firebase.
  • Experience with TDD, CI/CD, agile, or similar software development practices
  • Experience developing/delivering/supporting microservices
  • Familiarity with SRE concepts
  • AWS certified architect.
